Obituary of Ruth Willner

Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruth Willner November 1, 1925 – October 8, 2015 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Ruth Willner on Thursday, October 8, 2015. We take comfort in the fact she died at home peacefully and without pain. Mom was pre deceased by her husband, Oscar (1981) and her siblings, Helen, Alberdina, Arnold, Margaret and Mae. She is survived by her daughter Kathy (Robert), son, Greg (Laurie) and daughter Mary Anne, as well as her grandchildren J.P., Kaitlin and Ashton; her sister Blanche, sister-in-law, Verna and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom valued education, in part because it had been a difficult thing for her to receive. At fifteen she went to live in Prince Albert to attend grade 11 as it wasn't offered in her hometown. Mom boarded with a family, but was so young and homesick she never went back to complete grade 12. When her son and grandchildren went off to school outside of Regina, she was so proud but also recognized how wonderful technology was in allowing them to keep in touch. Her working world started when she moved to Saskatoon and got a job with "Telephones" (SaskTel). She loved her work and was promoted to head operator. Work took her to Davidson where she met Dad and then on to Assiniboia where they married and began their family. They moved to Regina in 1961. Mom made friends easily because she loved being involved. In her younger days she played ball, golfed and curled. While raising her family, social activities revolved around the women's groups at Rosemont Church. In her years living at Hampton House, her true joy was the companionship of the many women that called the building home. She spent more time "at the mall" than her grandkids! We know how lucky we were to have her as our mom, but sometimes it's in the comments of others that you truly begin to appreciate a person. Thanks to all of you who have shared your warm remembrances of our mother. She was a soft spoken, loving, classy lady who didn't like to be the centre of attention. As such she requested no funeral or memorial service and we will honor those wishes. Donations in Ruth’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation.
